In the early days of the Internet, when “social media” was nothing more than email groups and bulletin boards, a few online friends started occasionally pooling their funds to help a parrot in trouble. Decades later, this small group has grown into The Parrot Posse, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose supporters help thousands of parrots in need across the United States every year.
The Parrot Posse is unique: while many of our supporters are actively involved in parrot welfare, The Parrot Posse itself is neither a shelter nor a rescue. Instead, we help save parrots by helping rescues and sanctuaries on a regular basis, and by providing nationwide emergency support during natural disasters and law enforcement seizures. We are all volunteers, with no salaries, and virtually no overhead expenses.
In the past few years, we have raised over $500,000, mostly $10 and $20 at a time, and donated close to a million dollars worth of food, toys, nuts, perches, cages, and other supplies to parrot welfare groups. We have also donated tons of supplies after large seizures of abused, neglected, or hoarded parrots, and after natural disasters. The Parrot Posse has sent help to parrots in every one of the lower 48 states. We help literally thousands of birds each year.
We understand we cannot change the past lives of these birds, but we can improve their futures. The Parrot Posse has proven that by working together, we can make far more of a difference than when we work alone. We hope you will join us on our mission to help parrots in need as we ride into the new decade!
